Happy Diwali | A Typical Jain Diwali Goodies Thali (Platter)

Warm wishes for a very Happy Diwali and Season’s Greetings!

Last Diwali, I was puking my way into or out of pregnancy, God only knows! I had planned to do this post last year, but couldn’t. So I decided to do it this year.

On Diwali either we stay in Pune or we go to my in-law’s place near Delhi to celebrate. This year we stayed in Pune and they came over here. Whenever we stay back in Pune, I always make this platter to distribute among the neighbors along with our Diwali wishes [read: motive is to get their platter in exchange for mine ;)]! I enjoy doing the traditional bit in all our festivals. None of my festival is complete without the special fare on that day.

I think these goodies on platter are a staple of all Indian households and everyone has their own special recipe for them. This thali has some delicious looking and tasting ‘mathri’ (shortcrust pastry), ‘namakpaare’ (shortcrust pastry cut into 1cm pieces), ‘methi mathri’ (shortcrust pastry with dried fenugreek leaves), besan ke ladoo (gram flour rolled balls) & panjiri (desiccated coconut with nuts, set in one thread consistency sugar syrup).

Go ahead and enjoy this virtual platter along with Season’s Greetings from me & my family! Happy Diwali!
